Missouri Court Reporters Association

2014-2015 Officers of the Board Reports

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

As of October 9th, 2015

As Executive Director, I have attended all board meetings this year.  I have participated in many meetings on upcoming conference selection sites as well as ideas on how to handle future MCRA seminars.  I have worked on the current Convention Committee with the others, lining up speakers, working with the hotel on room assignments, scheduling seminar times, keeping an approximate budget on what we’re spending, developing a list of volunteers for the Missouri Bar event, coordinating the menus and breaks and Friday night cocktail party.  I worked with a parliamentarian trying to line up our bylaws with a future convention in April.

I work on keeping up with our Legislative Representative, David Klarich, and what’s up in the legislature, and I participated in Cookie Day at the legislature.  I worked on getting out our dues notices toward the end of last year.  And I’ve been available to any and all board members if they need advice or even just a sounding board about anything MCRA.

Respectfully submitted:

Linda Dattilo

REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT-ELECT 2015

As President-Elect, I have had the opportunity to serve during a relatively quiet period.  I am looking forward to our convention moving to spring.  Change is daunting but can also bring growth!  Also, I am glad that we have added the ability to pay online for our dues and convention registration.  There is still work to be done on the web site and I would truly welcome additional support from any member who feels so called to volunteer.  Looking ahead, I hope to have the opportunity to reach out and meet with many members.  Currently, we are working towards having meetings around the state to hear from the members.

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Foley

REPORT OF THE REGION I VICE PRESIDENT

For the Year Ending October, 2015

I assumed my duties as the Region I Vice President at the 67th Annual MCRA Conference in Camdenton, Missouri in 2011, and have continued to serve in that capacity until today.

I have attended meetings of the MCRA Board of Directors, and I have performed my duties according to MCRA Bylaws.

Because of low attendance at past holiday parties and weather issues in December, it was decided to forgo the holiday party altogether in 2014.

Region I members donated time and money to the Motion For Kids project over the holiday season, helping approximately 12 children to receive gifts for the holiday.  Every year we work with BMSL on this project, and our participation and donation is very much appreciated.

I did not attend the 2014 MCRA conference in Kansas City, Missouri, because of a family obligation that conflicted with the conference weekend, but attended the winter Board meeting in St. Louis and the summer Board meeting in Columbia, Missouri on behalf of Region I and have voted on all issues calling for a vote.

One June 17th, 2015, Region I held its annual region meeting at Pasta House.  All Region I members were invited to attend, where we discussed happenings in our region, the court reporting school crisis, as well as plans for the 2015 conference in St. Louis.  The 2015-2016 slate of officers was announced to the membership.  I announced that I would be stepping down as the Region I VP, and Karen Rottmann was voted in as the new Region I Vice President for the 2015-2016 year.

I will be attending the 2015 MCRA conference in October in St. Louis and participating in my last board meeting before stepping down as Region I VP.  It has been a pleasure to represent such a wonderful group of court reporters in the region for the past four years and look forward to continuing in all efforts to promote our profession as an MCRA member!

Respectfully Submitted,

Renee Lynn Bierman, CCR, CSR

Region I Vice President

REPORT OF THE REGION II VICE PRESIDENT

Hello from Region II.  We have had a rather quiet year this year compared to last year’s conference planning agenda.  We held our Annual Meeting on July 8, 2015, at Anthony’s Restaurant in Kansas City.  Julie Ragsdale was voted on to be the incoming Region II Vice President.  I am so thankful to have gotten a chance to get to know the members that make up this organization, and grateful to have had the chance to serve you, along with the wonderful people on the Board who work so hard to ensure the integrity and security of our profession.

We’re very excited for the upcoming seminar this weekend in St. Louis, and we hope to have a Trivia Night sometime in the spring.  We will also be having the annual Cookie Blast and our annual conference down at Camden on the Lake in 2016, so it will be a busy spring for us all. If you would like to help on any of the upcoming events, be sure to let Julie know.  Thank you all so much for making this such a great experience.

Respectfully,

Rena S. Tyne, Region II VP

REPORT OF THE REGION III VICE-PRESIDENT

For the Year Ending October 7, 2015

As Region III Vice President, I assumed my duties at the 68th Annual MCRA Conference held in Kansas City in October 2014.  As Region III Vice President, I attended the post-conference board meeting in Kansas City, and the winter board meeting held in St. Louis and the summer board meeting held in Columbia.

As Region III Vice President, I presided over our annual region meeting held on July 30, 2015.  The meeting was attended by two of our very finest region members in Columbia.  After discussion relating to the upcoming conference and region and statewide news, I was again elected to serve as Region III Vice President for the 2015-2016 year.

It has been a pleasure to serve as Region III Vice President of the Missouri Court Reporters Association, and I look forward to working with the new board members in the year ahead.

Respectfully submitted,

Tracy Taylor

REPORT FOR THE REGION V VICE-PRESIDENT

The annual Region V meeting was held on July 30 at the Library in Cape
Girardeau.  We were fortunate to have one freelance business owner, one
workers’ comp reporter, and two officials from different circuits in
attendance.   After catching up on the happenings within our own little
corner of the state, discussion followed concerning the October conference
and future plans to move the conference to the spring.   I was again
appointed Region V vice president for the upcoming year.   It has been a
pleasure working with the board this year.  I consider you all my friends,
and I look forward to working with the incoming Board of Directors in the

REPORT OF THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD COMMITTEE

For the Fiscal Period ending October 31, 2015

A request for Distinguished Service Award nominees was posted in Progress and in eBlast on the MCRA website.  Nominations were closed 60 days prior to the scheduled Annual Business Meeting as directed by the Policies and Procedures Manual.  After consideration of all the deserving nominees by members of the DSA Committee, a selection was made.  A recitation of the recipient’s background, involvement and contribution to Missouri Court Reporters Association  and the profession of court reporting will be presented at this year’s annual conference.

Respectfully submitted,
Mary K. Conway, DSA Chair

LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE REPORT 2015

MCRA had no specific legislation proposed for the 2015 Legislative Session.   We did monitor the situation involving the consolidation of some workers’ compensation offices.  No jobs were lost, thus no action was taken by MCRA.  Several members attended our annual Cookie Day in February.  During the day, we met with representatives and senators.  The committee always appreciates hearing from the members if they have any legislation they would like to have enacted.  Again, thanks to our great lobbyist, David Klarich, who watches out for our interest on a daily basis and alerts us to all legislative items related to the judiciary on a weekly basis.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Foley, Co-chair
